Abtex Clarifies Shs10Bn Government Support to Event Promoters, Reveals He Received Shs1.5Bn

Speaking to Sanyuka TV, events promoter Abtex, who also serves as the President of the Federation of Uganda Promoters Association (FUPA), has clarified the much-talked-about Shs10 billion government support package extended to event organizers.

Abtex dismissed claims that the money was a free handout, explaining that the funds were issued as a loan facility channeled through the Office of the President, with a small and manageable interest rate attached.

According to Abtex, the initiative was designed to support struggling event promoters while ensuring accountability and repayment, adding that the money was released in phases, not as a lump sum.

“In my case, I have so far received Shs1.5 billion,” Abtex revealed.

However, the promoter did not shy away from addressing the challenges he faced while trying to access the funds. He described the process as difficult and frustrating, alleging that some influential figures in the entertainment industry made it hard for him to secure an audience with the President.

Abtex specifically pointed fingers at Balaam Barugahara, a fellow promoter, whom he claims played a role in delaying his access to the President and, by extension, the funds.

The revelations have since sparked fresh debate within Uganda’s entertainment industry, with many promoters calling for greater transparency and equal access to government-backed financial support.
