Veteran Ugandan musician Bebe Cool has released his much-anticipated 2025 music list, ranking the best artists, songs, albums, and collaborations while offering his verdict on the state of Ugandaâs music industry.
According to the Gagamel boss, 2025 was more creative than 2024, largely driven by younger artists who pushed boundaries and challenged traditional sound norms. However, he noted that while âanything can now pass as music,â only a few exceptional creatives truly influenced sound quality and audience taste throughout the year.
Below is Bebe Coolâs 2025 Music List, as released by the artist.
Album of the Year: Bebe Cool â Break The Chains
Bebe Cool crowned his own project Break The Chains as Album of the Year, praising his bold decision to reinvent his sound by tapping into global genres such as Afrobeats and Afro-tech.
He revealed that although the album initially faced skepticism locally due to its unconventional style, it performed exceptionally well on the international market. Songs like Hidden Agendas, Cheque (ft Joshua Baraka), Home, Motivation, Circumference, Hips Donât Lie, and Rectangle Love stood out.
Bebe Cool emphasized that releasing a full album helped revive album culture in Uganda, which he believes defines professionalism and global relevance.
âAn artist without a professional album will never fully be considered a professional artist,â he stated, urging musicians to focus more on albums than singles.
Breakout Global Act: Joshua Baraka â Wrong Places
Joshua Baraka emerged as the Breakout Global Act of 2025 with his hit Wrong Places, a standout track from his album Juvie.
Bebe Cool described Baraka as the best young Ugandan talent with a global sound, applauding his independence and courage in a trend-driven industry. His growing international performances further cemented his global appeal.

âIntentional decisions, heavy investment, and focus have set him apart,â Bebe Cool noted, fondly referring to him as âBaby Elephant.â

Bebe Coolâs Verdict on the Industry
Despite celebrating individual excellence, Bebe Cool concluded that 2025 was weaker than 2024, continuing a decline he believes started in 2022. He blamed laziness, false confidence, excuses, and drug abuse for the industryâs struggles.
Reflecting on his journey from Nairobi hustles to international recognition, Bebe Cool urged Ugandan artists to think globally and fully utilize technology, social media, and available support systems.
âWith the moral authority of my longevity and status, I mean no disrespectâonly a call to raise the bar,â he concluded.
