Maro Opens Up on Rumoured Romance With Iryn Namubiru

Ugandan musician Maro has finally addressed long-standing rumours linking him romantically to celebrated vocalist Iryn Namubiru, clarifying that their much-talked-about closeness was purely professional.

The speculation largely stemmed from their hit collaboration “Addicted,” which sparked intense public debate after intimate-looking studio photos of the duo surfaced online. The images quickly went viral, leaving many netizens convinced the two were secretly dating.

Speaking during a recent interview on Deep Talk TV, Maro revealed that the rumours went as far as reaching his father, who felt compelled to call and seek clarity.

“I laughed when he called me because he was someone I had never talked to about women before. Our relationship, to the point of talking about deep issues, came later,” Maro shared.

The singer stressed that his relationship with Iryn Namubiru was strictly cordial, explaining that the media misinterpreted the situation because he had previously admitted having a crush on her.

“I used to tell people that Iryn was my crush; she was always my number one, or after Maurice Kirya. Working on that song with her was a blessing,” Maro said.

According to Maro, the viral photos unexpectedly brought them closer, allowing him to get to know the diva beyond her public image.

“After the studio sessions and those photos went viral, that’s when I got to know her more. She is always portrayed differently in the media,” he added.

Maro concluded by describing the collaboration as a positive milestone in his career, emphasizing that there was never a romantic relationship—just mutual respect and artistic synergy.
