Nigeria hold a 1–0 advantage over Uganda at the break in their final Group C match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the Fez Stadium in Morocco.
Already assured of a place in the round of 16, the Super Eagles produced a controlled and confident first-half performance, with striker Paul Onuachu scoring the decisive goal in the 28th minute. The towering forward made amends for an earlier missed chance by stretching to convert a low cross from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru after a swift Nigerian build-up.

Nigeria dominated possession and attacking territory for much of the opening 45 minutes, making effective use of the flanks through Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze. Simon came close to opening the scoring earlier after weaving past defenders, but Chukwueze failed to finish from close range.
Uganda showed flashes of promise, particularly from set pieces and long balls, but struggled to break through Nigeria’s disciplined defence. Their best attacking moments came through Omedi and Mato, though neither was able to seriously test the Nigerian goalkeeper.

A major concern for Uganda was the fitness of veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango, who went down several times with an apparent ankle injury. Despite visible discomfort, Onyango managed to continue and made a crucial save to deny Onuachu’s header midway through the half.
In the other Group C match, Tunisia took the lead against Tanzania, a result that further complicates Uganda’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage. As things stand, Uganda need a second-half turnaround and favourable results elsewhere to keep their AFCON campaign alive.

Nigeria, meanwhile, are on course to complete the group stage with a perfect record as they head into the interval firmly in control.
