Promoter Nobat Blasts Abtex Over Alleged Government Funds, Says He’s Been Betrayed

Tensions are running high in Uganda’s entertainment industry after events promoter Nobat of Nobat Events came out swinging against Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex, the acting president of the Federation of Uganda Promoters Association (FUPA).

An emotional Nobat says he feels completely betrayed and pushed aside following reports that the association recently received government money meant to support struggling promoters, but the funds never reached those who genuinely needed help.

According to Nobat, promoters like him—who have been taking real financial hits trying to keep the industry alive—were ignored, while little-known promoters and people close to the association’s leadership allegedly benefited instead.

“I’ve lost money on almost every show I’ve organized recently,” Nobat said, adding that it hurts to be overlooked despite being among the most active promoters in the country. To him, the situation feels less like poor leadership and more like a personal betrayal.

The drama has only deepened industry tensions, especially after reports surfaced that Abtex himself suffered losses following a poorly performing end-of-year show. For many, this has raised questions about leadership, fairness, and accountability within the promoters’ association.

Clearly frustrated, Nobat has vowed to fight for what he believes is rightfully his, saying he’s ready to confront the issue head-on if it means getting answers.

So far, Abtex and FUPA have not publicly responded to the allegations. Meanwhile, the controversy has sparked heated conversations across the entertainment scene, with many promoters quietly echoing Nobat’s concerns and calling for transparency in how support funds are handled.
