Ugandan singer Chosen Becky, real name Rebecca Kukiriza, has sparked major backlash after religious authorities revealed she illegally accessed Mecca — the holy Islamic city — without proper authorization.
According to the Ugandan Bureau of Hajj Affairs, Becky did not travel for Umrah under any recognized Ugandan Hajj group. The shocking clarification came after an emergency meeting led by Sheikh Kyewalyanga Zakaria, who said Becky entered Saudi Arabia on a visit visa from Mali, arranged for music shows in Dammam, Jeddah, and Riyadh — not for pilgrimage.
This comes after Becky went viral on social media, seen alongside her fiancé Abdul Kadhir exploring Kabba in full Islamic attire. The excitement quickly turned controversial when she openly admitted, after returning, that she is not a Muslim.
The Bureau, led by Sheikh Hussein Mutyaba, launched an investigation to find out how a non-Muslim ended up in one of Islam’s most sacred places. It was discovered that her travel was organized by a promoter named Rasul, who later told authorities his deal with Becky was strictly for musical performances — not for any religious visit.
However, her fiancé Kadhir has been identified as the person who made arrangements for her to visit the holy site. This has raised serious concern among Islamic leaders.
“We found that when Becky left Uganda, she didn’t go for Umrah. She went to perform shows,” said Sheikh Kyewalyanga.
Leaders are now urging both Becky and her fiancé to seek forgiveness from God for what they termed an unholy act. They also advised her to consider converting to Islam if she wishes to continue associating with sacred Islamic rituals.
Becky’s silence on the matter has fueled more debate online, with many wondering whether she knowingly violated religious protocols or was simply misled.
