Sarah Male Turns Poetry Into Purpose with Special Kabalagala Experience

Ugandan poet and PhD scholar Sarah Male is redefining the role of art in society, using her voice not just for expression but for impact. Known for her deeply reflective and socially conscious poetry, Male is now taking her craft a step further — turning words into action through a unique poetry experience aimed at giving back.

Over the years, Sarah Male has built a strong reputation in Uganda’s poetry scene, tackling themes such as identity, inequality, resilience, and hope. Her work resonates with many, especially young people navigating purpose and self-discovery. But behind the powerful performances lies a personal journey that continues to shape her mission.

Raised in an orphanage, Male’s early life experiences played a significant role in molding both her worldview and her art. Today, she is returning to her roots with a heartfelt initiative designed to support the same orphanage that once raised her — marking a powerful full-circle moment.

On May 9th, Sarah Male will host an intimate poetry event in Kabalagala, near KPC Church, towards Kabalagala Police Station. The experience is expected to blend live poetry, acoustic music, and a serenade-inspired atmosphere, creating a space for storytelling, reflection, and connection.

Unlike typical poetry showcases, this event carries a deeper purpose. Attendees will not only enjoy an evening of soulful performances but also contribute to a meaningful cause. Exclusive merchandise will be available at the event, with all proceeds directed towards an outreach initiative supporting children at the orphanage.

The initiative aims to provide essential supplies, including baby items and educational materials, to help improve the lives of young children growing up in similar circumstances.

Sarah Male’s journey — from an orphanage to pursuing a PhD — stands as a powerful testament to resilience and transformation. Through this event, she is inviting the public to be part of a story that goes beyond poetry, one rooted in gratitude, community, and impact.

As Uganda’s creative industry continues to evolve, voices like Sarah Male’s are proving that art can do more than entertain — it can inspire change, uplift communities, and create lasting impact.

For lovers of poetry, music, and meaningful experiences, this Kabalagala event promises more than just a night out — it offers a chance to witness art in action.
